How do we future-proof vocational training in construction?
The BuildSkills Academy project—funded by Erasmus+—is answering that question with action. Through its BuildEnrichedSkills Methodology (BESM) and a series of roundtable discussions across six countries, the project is redefining how VET providers respond to the green and digital transitions.
The challenge is clear:
Europe’s construction sector is evolving fast. But training systems often lag behind. BuildSkills Academy is bridging that gap—with a methodology that’s practical, adaptable, and built for impact.
At the heart of this effort is the BuildEnrichedSkills Methodology (BESM)—a three-step process that helps VET providers:
- Assess their current course content
- Identify missing green and digital skills
- Enrich their programs with updated content, teaching methods, and assessment tools
To test and refine this approach, roundtable discussions were held in:
- 🇧🇬 Bulgaria: Emphasis on practical training, stronger education-industry links, and youth engagement
- 🇨🇾 Cyprus: Focus on local adaptability, certification integration, and stakeholder clarity
- 🇱🇹 Lithuania: Strong alignment with EU policy; potential for cross-sector application
- 🇮🇹 Italy: Relevance confirmed; need for lifelong learning, trainer support, and sector expansion
- 🇧🇦 Bosnia and Herzegovina: Gaps in adult education and national frameworks; call for clearer metrics
- 🇬🇷 Greece: Skills gaps, language barriers, and the need for broader competencies addressed
What emerged?
A unified message: VET must evolve—fast. Curricula need updating. Stakeholders must collaborate. And training must reflect real-world demands, especially in sustainability and digitalization.
Why it matters:
The skills we teach today will shape the resilience, innovation, and sustainability of tomorrow’s construction sector. BESM is more than a methodology—it’s a movement toward smarter, greener, more inclusive training.
