How do we equip Europe’s construction workforce for a greener, smarter future?
The BuildSkills Academy (BSA) project—funded by Erasmus+—is answering that question with the BuildEnrichedSkills Methodology (BESM): a structured, digital-first approach that empowers VET providers to modernize their courses with essential green and digital skills.
Why it matters:
The construction sector is under pressure—from sustainability targets, digital disruption, and a growing skills gap. BESM is designed to help VET providers respond with speed, structure, and confidence.
What’s inside the methodology?
A clear, three-step process:
- Self-Assessment
A structured questionnaire helps VET providers evaluate their course content, teaching methods, and assessment tools. - Skills Gap Identification
An automated report compares current course content with industry standards—highlighting missing green and digital skills. - Enrichment
BESM offers practical guidelines, best practices, and digital tools to help providers update and future-proof their training programs.
How was it developed?
- Built on solid research and aligned with EQAVET quality standards
- Co-created with VET providers, industry experts, and policymakers
- Validated through two virtual and six national roundtables
- Piloted across 12 courses in the BSA consortium
- Integrated into a user-friendly digital platform for seamless implementation
What’s next?
- Launch of the BESM Digital Platform
- Ongoing validation with external quality experts
- Integration into VET curricula across Europe
